09 May Banker Profile – Lane Allen
Encore Bank employees are the best of the best in banking, and we want you, our current and potential partners and clients, to know them as more than just Encore employees. We want you to truly know them as people, and be comfortable with them in both a personal and professional setting. In this week’s team member highlight, we sat down with Lane Allen to discuss him and his role here at Encore Bank.
What is your current job title at Encore and how long have you been in this position?
I am the Regional President, San Antonio, and I’ve been with Encore Bank for 1 year.
Can you give me a brief overview of what it is that you do for your job at Encore?
Responsible for establishing and growing Encore’s presence in the San Antonio/South Texas region.
What led you to Encore, and what was the deciding factor in making the switch?
I was approached by former colleagues, Marc Massad and Alan Rayson, who told me I needed to quit my job to come start a bank with them. I was most excited about the opportunity to invest myself and grow a business from the ground up.
What led you to choose a career in banking?
I graduated with a business degree but no clear idea of what I wanted to do. A management training program in banking gave me the opportunity to learn the business through rotations in multiple job types and lines of business. After completing the program, I was drawn to Commercial Banking because I loved learning about different businesses and being around entrepreneurs.
How would you describe the culture at Encore?
Beautiful. #Wewintogether reminds me to be humble and keep an attitude of service to my partners. We accomplish more together than I ever could on my own.
What do you like most about working for Encore?
Watching the business come together and seeing my partners achieve success. Also, hearing the responses from clients as to how we are delivering on our value proposition and truly being a different kind of bank.
Along with many industries, the banking industry is ever changing. What types of changes do you think will happen in the next five years?
Customers will increase their demand for best in class technology, quicker decision making, and better service. Banks that can deliver on the increasing demand for technology, ease of service, and retain the relationship aspect of banking will win.
Who has been the most influential person in your life, either personal or professional?
My grandfather – paralyzed at a young age, he provided an example of perseverance, gratitude and joy despite your circumstances. My wife – shows me what grace truly means and makes me want to be a better version of myself.
What do you like to do for fun outside of work?
Anything outdoors – Spending time with family and friends outdoors – hunting, hiking, traveling.
What is something that you are looking forward to this year, either personal or professional?
Professionally, hosting the Regional Presidents meeting in San Antonio in April and showcasing our incredible market. Personally, upcoming trips with my family.
What’s one location you’d love to see Encore Bank branch to?
Very excited to see us move into Denver.
What does Building Something Different mean to you?
It means never accepting “the way it always has been done” but not throwing out conventional wisdom. Looking for small changes in process that can make big changes to a business or experience.
